What Is Celiac Nerve Block?

As one of few pain management programs dedicated solely to addressing gastrointestinal pain, we provide a level of expertise only available in a handful of hospitals across the country. Working with experts from our Stanford Pain Management Center, we offer celiac nerve block as part of our commitment to deliver minimally invasive treatments whenever possible.

Also known as a celiac plexus block, this treatment may be right for you if you have recurrent abdominal pain that is not responsive to other treatments. Celiac nerve block works by injecting pain medication directly into the bundle of nerves responsible for carrying pain signals to your abdomen (celiac plexus).

The celiac plexus is located between your diaphragm and stomach near your celiac artery. The celiac plexus makes it possible for you to feel sensation in your:

• Stomach
• Spleen
• Kidneys
• Intestines
